Michael W. Smith Hosts Drive-In Concert at the Williamson County Ag Expo

Just a few days ago, I had the chance to photograph something I never expected to see in my lifetime: Michael W. Smith performing live to a field of cars, fans sitting on rooftops and folding chairs—worshiping together from a distance.

It’s been months since COVID-19 changed how we gather, how we worship, and how we experience live music. But this night felt like a creative breakthrough. With the help of local production teams and the Williamson County Ag Expo Center, Smith’s drive-in concert brought people together safely, but powerfully.

The MWS team were kind enough to extend the opportunity to document this moment—not just the stage, but the people. Families. Couples. Longtime fans. Everyone adapting, but still fully present. The atmosphere was reverent, joyful, and frankly, surreal.

As a photographer, I’ve always believed in documenting culture as it shifts—and this was one of those nights. A night when faith, music, and resilience showed up in parking spaces and headlights under a Tennessee sky.

Moments like this are why I love what I do.

If you're planning a concert, church gathering, or community event and want it photographed with care, creativity, and heart—I'd love to talk with you. These are the stories I feel called to tell.
